Hello, this is me...

In this photo, I'm about 13 years old, just as my story with music and fandango is about to begin there in the city and port of Veracruz.

By then, I'd already listened to a lot of popular and classical music, I knew rock wasn't one of my favorite sounds, and I hadn't yet been exposed to what would later be called world music. What's more, I didn't even know what a jarana or a fandango were. But I was already studying to become an electrical technician...

My Story... Veracruz 1977

I was born very close to the city's main square, where I remember being taken for walks, and between playing with doves or blowing bubbles, I listened to music—live music. My mother was the one who took us for walks, and she also listened to the radio at home, where I became addicted to danzón, salsa, and whatever was in fashion.

With my dad, I was forced to listen to classical music, which I don't complain about, since I remember having to play with my dolls or cars to the rhythm of the music, without making any noise. But by doing so, I now realize I was responding to the musical motifs, the polyphonies, polyrhythms, movements, and instrumentation of the compositions!

Tools have always attracted me. They endow you with mini superpowers: you can create, modify, compose, or destroy by using them.

Curiosity, restlessness, moments of solitude, observation, listening, and other qualities give way to creativity. And there's nothing like being a good assistant and becoming a passionate teacher. That's practically the story of my life.
